Screening Programme for Taxi drivers

Why do I need heart screening?

If you are a Taxi driver or other professional driver, the Public Carriage Office (PCO) or DVLA may ask for a medical report when you apply for a new licence or renewal of your existing licence.   Before a doctor can issue a report you may require some tests to be done to assess the performance of your heart.

What tests will I have?

You will normally require one or both of the following tests:

  1. Treadmill   Exercise Testing  (ETT) – £200
  2. Echocardiography (ECHO) –  £300

We will offer you a discount if you require both of these tests at the same time so that you only have to pay £450 for both tests.

If the DVLA requests the tests on your behalf, they would normally pay for these directly so all you need to do is to attend for the test.  You will find information about DVLA licensing requirements on http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/medical/aag.aspx.

We offer same day appointments and our experienced cardiologist can complete the report within 24 hours.

What do I need to do before attending for a heart assessment?

Before we carry out any tests, you will need to tell us about your medical history.  When booking your appointment please tell us if you are taking any medication.  We may ask you to stop some of these medications before undertaking the Treadmill Exercise testing.  Please wear comfortable clothing when you attend for your test.

Please bring along any forms from the Public Carriage Office or DVLA that may need to be completed and signed by a doctor.

We offer confidential follow-up consultation with our experienced cardiologists who will advise on any course of treatment should that be necessary.

Here at North London Cardiac Centre we want you to feel at ease when you attend for your screening.  If you have any queries about any of the tests or you are unsure about what you should do, our experienced cardiac physiologist would be very happy to answer your questions.
